  1. 1998 - The Integrated Bar of the Philippines joins the cry for the impeachment of Ombudsman Aniano Desierto due to his continuous dismissal of the criminal suits filed by the government against Marcos cronies.
  2. 1998 - China's ambassador to Manila Guang Deng-ming tells Sen. Blas Ople, chair of the foreign relations committee of the Philippine Senate, that the Philippines should disregard divisive forces and focus instead on the improvement of regional unity.
